Here's something else I'm playing around with right now. These earrings are longer and larger than my usual pieces. Somehow, the double layers and the pearl dangles just seemed to need more space. I used Kato clay for these. I did try Premo! but again it didn't seem to have the "body" and feel I wanted for these earrings. I really like the way the Skinner blend and the texture contribute additional contrasts to the curved forms. The green earrings curve forward at the bottom while the blue pair curve backward.
This new pair of convex earrings, sports crystals instead of pearls. Love the summery colors, too.
just beautiful. I love the texture on the blue ones

Hi Kristie, I just love the designs here. I would like to see more of this. Would like to know what material is used.
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteThank you. I used Kato clay for these earrings. I wanted them very thin since they are large, but I also wanted strength. Kato works perfectly!

I bought Kato today, as I was told it would work better. But after an hour of trying to condition it between using my hands and pasta thing, it was still very crumbly, would not hold together for anything, no matter what I tried. I am very frustrated with it, any suggestions

HI, Sandra,
DeleteI'm sorry you're running into this problem. Kato has traditionally been very, very difficult to condition. Their newest version of the clay is usually pretty pliable. I'm wondering if you ended up with a set of clay that has been around in the store warehouse, or has been exposed to heat. Sometimes, when clay sits and /or gets warm, it actually can start to bake a bit in the package. There are products you can purchase to mix in with the clay to soften it, such as Sculpey clay softener or Sculpey Mold Maker. I usually don't have the patience to work on a package if it is super dry and crumbly. I usually get my Kata straight from Donna Kato at Prairiecraft.com. I have found the clay I am purchasing there is usually much easier to condition and work with. I hope this helps.
When my clay is that stiff and hard, I have my hubby sit on the package at least thru 1 tv episode.
DeleteI would be interested in purchasing a pair of the blue earrings. Please contact me with sales info! awessling1940@gmail.com. Thank you!
